Motored

Support

Write to support@ripeseed.io. It is a real mailbox, read by the people who build Motored, and it is the fastest way to get an answer. Tell us which phone you are on and which app version — Settings, at the bottom.

There is no account to recover and no password to reset, so most of what follows is about the phone in your hand rather than about us.

Report a bug

Say what you tapped, what you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot usually saves an entire exchange of emails.

Ask for a feature

Tell us the problem rather than the solution — the shape of the thing you were trying to record is more useful to us than a proposed button.

Privacy or legal

Same mailbox. See the Privacy Policy for what we hold, which is less than you might expect, and the Terms of Use.

The common one

A reminder did not arrive

Motored schedules reminders on the phone itself, so when one does not appear the cause is almost always on the phone. Work down this list in order.

  1. Are notifications allowed? iOS: Settings → Motored → Notifications. Android: Settings → Apps → Motored → Notifications. If permission was refused the first time, this is where it is turned back on.
  2. Are reminders on inside Motored? Settings → Notifications. If this is off, everything scheduled is cancelled.
  3. Is a Focus, Do Not Disturb or battery saver holding it? These can delay or silence a scheduled notification without telling you.
  4. Is the mileage current? A reminder set by mileage predicts its date from how much you have been driving. If the odometer has not been updated in months, the prediction is working from stale numbers. Update it on the car's page.
  5. Is the reminder itself switched on? Open the car → All reminders, and check the one you expected.

Motored deliberately notifies you once per cycle, a little before something is due, rather than repeating. If you have already seen and dismissed it, it will not come back until the next cycle starts.

Please read Terms of Use §7: reminders are a convenience built from intervals you chose, not a maintenance schedule for your car. Do not let Motored be the only thing standing between your car and a service.

How do I…

The things people ask for

Export my car maintenance log to a spreadsheet

Settings → Export & restore → Save. Motored builds a zip holding cars.csv, entries.csv and data.json, plus a photos/ folder, and hands it to the share sheet. Mail it to yourself, drop it in Files or Drive, wherever you like.

This is free on every plan, including no plan, and always will be.

Move my logbook to a new phone

On the old phone: Settings → Export & restore → Backup → Save, and put the zip somewhere you can reach from the new one. On the new phone: install Motored, then Settings → Export & restore → Restore, and pick that file.

Restoring replaces everything on the new phone with what is in the file, photos included. Motored takes its own safety copy first.

Restore a purchase I already made

Settings → Restore purchase. Make sure the device is signed in to the same App Store or Google account that bought it.

An iOS purchase does not carry over to Android, or the other way round — the two stores are separate and neither honours the other's receipt. If a restore still finds nothing, send us the store receipt and we will look.

Cancel a subscription

In the store, not in Motored. iOS: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Motored. Android: Play Store → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → Motored.

Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the period you already paid for runs to its end, and nothing in your logbook is deleted when it does.

Get a refund

Refunds go through the store that took the payment, because we never took it. Apple handles iOS purchases; Google Play handles Android ones from the order history in your account. If a store turns you down and you think it got it wrong, write to us and we will see what we can do.

Change the units, currency or language

Units and currency are in Settings, and also on any screen where a number is shown — tap the unit itself. Motored guesses from your region on first run and then leaves your choice alone, even if you travel.

Language follows your phone. Settings → Language opens your phone's own per-app language picker, which is where iOS and Android want that choice made. Motored speaks seventeen languages.

Fix a VIN that will not decode

Motored decodes VINs against a free US government database, which is thorough for cars sold in North America and patchy for everything else. A European or Japanese domestic car often comes back empty, and that is the database, not your VIN.

Check the VIN reads correctly — there is no I, O or Q in a VIN, so those are almost always 1, 0 and 0. If it still comes back empty, type the car in by hand; nothing in Motored requires a decoded VIN.

Delete my data

Delete an entry or a car inside the app and it is gone, photos with it. Delete Motored and the whole database, every photo and the weekly safety copies go with it. There is no copy on our side to ask us to delete.

Take a backup first if you want to keep any of it — this is not recoverable afterwards.

For the anonymous analytics described in Privacy Policy §5, write to us and we will tell you how to stop it on your device.

Log a partial fill, or one I forgot

Both are handled rather than silently wrecking your average. Mark a fill-up as partial when you did not fill the tank, and mark the next one as following a missed fill when you forgot to log the one before. Motored leaves those out of the economy figure instead of pretending the numbers work.

Delete my account

There is no account. Motored has no sign-up, no email address, no password and no server-side profile, so there is nothing to delete and no account deletion request to make. Deleting the app removes everything, as above.
