Terms of Use
Effective 23 August 2026. Last updated 23 August 2026.
Read §7 if you read nothing else
Motored's reminders are built from intervals you set. They are a convenience, not a maintenance schedule, and they are not advice about your car. Your manufacturer's schedule and a qualified mechanic are the authorities on when your car needs work. §7 says this properly.
1. The agreement
These Terms of Use are a contract between you and RipeSeed LLC, a Delaware limited liability company ("we", "us"), covering the Motored mobile app, this website, and anything we sell inside the app. By downloading, installing or using Motored you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use Motored.
How we handle data is set out in the Privacy Policy, which is part of this agreement.
On iPhone and iPad, Motored is also offered under Apple's standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement, which the App Store applies to every app that does not supply its own. Where that agreement and these terms genuinely conflict, Apple's governs your licence to run the app, and these terms govern everything else — what Pro is, what the reminders are and are not, and the limits below.
2. Your licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Motored on devices you own or control, for your own use, on the terms of the store you got it from. That is all this is — Motored is licensed, not sold, and we keep every right we have not expressly given you here.
3. Who may use Motored
You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live, and at least 13. If you are under 18, use Motored with a parent or guardian's involvement. You must not use it if a law where you are, or a US export or sanctions rule, says you may not.
4. The free car
Motored keeps one car free, for as long as you like. That is the whole app for that car, not a trial: every kind of entry, every reminder, the cost report, and export and backup. We may change what the free tier includes for future versions, but we will not delete a logbook you already have to make you buy something.
5. Motored Pro
Motored Pro raises the one-car limit to as many cars as you want. That is the only thing it unlocks. It is sold in three forms:
- Monthly — an auto-renewing subscription, billed each month.
- Yearly — an auto-renewing subscription, billed each year.
- For good — a single payment that does not expire and does not renew.
Auto-renewal. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the price then shown to you, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your store account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period. Payment is taken by Apple or Google, not by us.
Prices. Every price you see in the app comes from the App Store or Google Play in your own currency, including any tax they add. Prices shown on this website are US list prices and are there to give you an idea, not to bind us; the store's price is the real one. We may change prices for the future, and where a change affects a running subscription the store will tell you and ask before it applies.
Where Pro applies. Pro is tied to the store account that bought it, and you can restore it on another device signed in to that same account. An iOS purchase does not carry over to Android, or the other way round — Apple and Google run separate stores and neither will honour the other's receipt.
6. Cancelling and refunds
Cancel in the store, not in the app. On iOS, Settings → your name → Subscriptions. On Android, the Play Store app → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the period you already paid for runs to its end.
Refunds are handled by the store, under its policy, not by us — we cannot issue one because we never took the payment. Apple's is at support.apple.com/billing; Google's is in Play Store help. If you are in a place whose consumer law gives you a cancellation or withdrawal right, that right stands and nothing here limits it.
Losing Pro deletes nothing. If a subscription ends, every car, entry, reminder and photo stays where it is, and export and backup keep working — they are free on every plan, including no plan. What you lose is the ability to keep more than one car active.
7. Reminders are not maintenance advice
This is the most important section in this document.
Motored's reminders are arithmetic on numbers you gave it. You choose the interval; the app predicts a date from the mileage you have logged and tells you when it thinks that date is near. The presets it offers — oil, tire rotation, brake fluid, filters, plugs, belts, coolant and the rest — are common general figures, offered for convenience and editable before you save them. They are not specific to your car.
Motored is a record-keeping tool. It is not a source of automotive, safety, mechanical or legal advice, and it does not know the condition of your car. The authorities on when your vehicle needs work are its manufacturer's service schedule, the law where you drive, and a qualified mechanic who has looked at it. Where Motored and any of those disagree, they are right and Motored is wrong.
A reminder can also simply not arrive — because notification permission was refused or revoked, because the phone was off, out of battery, in a focus mode or a battery saver, because the operating system delayed or dropped it, because reminders were switched off, or because the mileage the prediction used was out of date. Do not rely on Motored as the only thing standing between your car and a missed service.
You are responsible for maintaining, inspecting and insuring your vehicle and for driving it safely. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for mechanical damage, wear, breakdown, failed inspection, voided warranty, lost value, injury or any other loss arising from a service done late, done early or not done at all — whatever Motored did or did not show you. §14 applies to all of it.
Do not use Motored while driving. Log the entry when you have stopped.
8. Vehicle data and VIN lookups
When you ask Motored to decode a VIN, it queries the vPIC database run by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and writes back what that database returns. The data is theirs, not ours. It is frequently incomplete outside North America, it can be wrong, and it says nothing about a particular car's history, condition, accidents, title, mileage or ownership. Motored shows blanks rather than guesses, and you should check anything that matters against the car itself and its documents.
The same goes for the car catalogue Motored ships for looking up a make and model: it is reference data for filling in a form quickly, and it is not a warranty of anything about your car. Manufacturer and model names belong to their owners and are used here only to identify vehicles.
9. Your content, and your records
Everything you put into Motored — your entries, notes and photos — is yours. We claim no ownership of it, we grant ourselves no licence over it, and as the Privacy Policy explains, we do not receive it.
Because it lives on your device, keeping a copy is your job. Motored gives you the tools: export to CSV and JSON, a full backup with the photos, and a quiet weekly copy on the phone. Use them. We cannot recover a logbook lost to a broken, lost, wiped or stolen phone, or to the app being deleted — there is nothing on our side to recover it from.
Only put things into Motored that you have the right to put there, and do not use it to store someone else's personal information without a reason to.
10. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble Motored, except where law says you may despite a term like this one;
- rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute or sublicense it;
- work around the one-car limit or any other technical restriction, or use a modified build to get Pro without paying for it;
- use it to break a law, infringe someone's rights, or store or share unlawful material;
- attack, overload or probe the services it talks to, or automate requests through it at a volume a person would not generate;
- remove or obscure any notice of ownership in the app or its assets.
11. Our intellectual property
Motored, its name, its icon, its design, its interface, its text and its code are owned by RipeSeed LLC and protected by copyright and trademark law. Nothing here transfers any of that to you. Third-party components are used under their own licences.
12. Changes to Motored and to these terms
We may add, change or remove features, and we may stop offering Motored altogether. If we ever discontinue it we will give reasonable notice through the app or this website, and export and backup will keep working so you can take your records with you.
We may change these terms. The dates at the top of this page change with them, and a material change will be flagged in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Motored after that means you accept the new version; if you do not, stop using it and cancel any subscription. A change never applies retroactively to something that already happened.
13. No warranty
Motored is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express, implied or statutory, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, and any warranty arising from a course of dealing or trade usage.
We do not warrant that Motored will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free, that a reminder will arrive, that a prediction will be correct, that decoded vehicle data will be accurate or complete, or that defects will be fixed.
Some places do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or of implied consumer guarantees. Where that is so, this section applies only as far as that law permits, and your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected by anything here.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, RipeSeed LLC and its members, officers, employees and suppliers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, lost records, loss of use, vehicle damage or repair cost, loss of vehicle value, or business interruption, arising out of or relating to Motored — whether the claim is in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability or otherwise, and even if we were told such damage was possible.
Our total liability for all claims relating to Motored is limited to the greater of the amount you actually paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty-five US dollars.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these exclusions, and where that is so this section applies only as far as it lawfully can.
15. Indemnity
You will indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your use of Motored in breach of these terms or of any law, or from content you put into it that you had no right to. This does not apply to a claim caused by our own breach, and it does not apply where you are using Motored as a consumer and the law where you live prevents it.
16. Termination
You may end this agreement at any time by deleting Motored — and cancelling any subscription in the store, which deleting the app does not do on its own. We may suspend or end your licence if you materially breach these terms. Sections 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 15, 17 and 19 survive the end of this agreement.
17. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The state and federal courts in Delaware have exclusive jurisdiction, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction and venue.
If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, or of your right to bring proceedings in your local courts where that law gives you one.

18. Apple and Google
This agreement is between you and RipeSeed LLC, not with Apple or Google. They are not responsible for Motored or its content. To the extent required by the App Store terms:
- Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for Motored, and no warranty obligation of any kind. Any warranty claim that survives §13 is ours, and if the app fails to conform to a warranty you may notify Apple for a refund of the purchase price.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to Motored — including product liability, a failure to meet a legal requirement, and a claim under consumer protection or similar law.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for investigating and defending any claim that Motored infringes someone's intellectual property.
- You confirm you are not in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as terrorist-supporting, and are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you as they relate to your licence to the app.
Google Play's own terms apply to anything you obtain through Google Play, in the same way.
19. General
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about Motored. If a provision is held unenforceable it is limited or severed to the minimum extent needed and the rest stands. Not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. You may not assign this agreement; we may assign it to a successor to our business. Nothing here creates a partnership, agency or employment relationship. Headings are for reading convenience.
